Study Summary
We would like to invite you to take part in a research study that we are doing to understand goals and strategies about ways people consider more care and less harm in their surroundings. If you are interested, this form will explain what will happen if you join the study.

If you decide to take part in this study, we recommend that you save or print a copy of this form.
Research studies help us to learn new things and test new ideas. Taking part in a research study is voluntary. You are free to say yes or no, and you can stop taking part at any time, without giving us a reason. There will be no penalty to you.
Research Purpose
The purpose of this research is better understand people’s values and attitudes about being helpful and reducing possible harm in their surroundings.
We are inviting you to take part in this research because you have expressed interest in encouraging helping behaviors and/or reducing harmful behaviors in the places you study and work. We will only include you in the study if you first give us your permission.
We are asking about 200 people to take part in the study.
Jordan Booker in the Department of Psychological Sciences is the Principal Investigator/study doctor.
What Am I Being Asked To Do?
If you decide to take part in this study, we will ask you to complete a short set of survey items about your attitudes and values.
How Long Will I Be In The Study?
This research study should take about 20 minutes to complete.
Can I Stop Being In The Study?
Yes, you can stop being in the study at any time without giving a reason. You are welcome to close the browser window at any time and stop participating.
Are There Any Risks To Taking Part In This Study?
There are risks to taking part in any research study. There may be problems caused by the study that we do not know about yet. We will tell you about any new information we learn that may affect your decision to continue taking part in the study. Some risks/discomforts from being in this study include being uncomfortable responding to a particular item. If we learn about new important risks, we will tell you. You may always skip a specific item if you do not want to complete it, or stop participating in the study altogether.
What Other Choices Do I Have If I Don’t Take Part?
If you do not want to participate in the study, you may close this window now. There are no other activities you need to worry about completing and no penalty for choosing not to participate.
Will Information About Me Be Kept Private?
We will keep the information we collect from you for this study to use in future research and possibly to share with other investigators to use in future studies without asking for your consent again. No information that could identify you will be collected from your research information so no one will know that data belongs to you.
Are There Any Benefits To Me From Taking Part In This Study?
If you take part in this study, there are not expected to be any direct benefits to you. However, we hope that by taking part, you will benefit from knowing that you are contributing to helping us to learn more about the important ways people want to promote care and prevent harm in their surroundings, which may benefit people in the future.
However, you can receive the score from your responses at the end of the study. This score is meant to reflect your preferred mindsets or views for creating change.
Will it Cost Me Anything To Take Part In This Study?
There is no cost to you for taking part in this study.
Will I Be Paid For Taking Part In This Study?
You will not be paid for taking part in this study.
What Are My Rights as a Study Participant?
Taking part in this study is voluntary. If you do decide to take part, you have the right to change your mind and drop out of the study at any time. Whatever your decision, there will be no penalty to you in any way.
If the study investigator decides to take you off the study, he must explain the reasons.
We will tell you about any new information discovered during this study that might affect your health, welfare, or change your mind about taking part.
